About

MONSTER MIKE WELCH

With over 25 years of touring and recording under his belt, Boston-based blues guitarist Monster Mike Welch is considered a seasoned veteran of the international blues scene despite his relatively young age. Given the nickname “Monster Mike” by actor/Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd at the tender age of 13, Welch has since carved out a niche as a highly accomplished and in-demand guitarist. To date, Welch has released six albums under his own name, and in 2001, he joined the ranks of one of New England’s most beloved blues institutions, Sugar Ray and the Bluetones, where he stayed until 2017, recording five albums and racking up multiple Blues Music Award nominations for the band in that time. In addition, Welch has recorded with Shemekia Copeland, Ronnie Earl, Danielle Nicole, Duke Robillard, Johnny Winter, Victor Wainwright, Nick Moss, the Mannish Boys and Sugaray Rayford, among others. Welch left the Bluetones in 2017 to focus on his partnership with Mike Ledbetter, which led to four Blues Music Awards, seven further BMA nominations, and the formation of the Welch Ledbetter Connection. Welch has received four consecutive Blues Music Award nominations by the Blues Foundation for Instrumentalist-Guitar with a win in 2019, a Boston Music Award for Best Blues Act, and is an inductee of the Rhode Island Music Hall Of Fame.

  1. Hello Mike, I’m Richard Borel, I am living in Toulouse in France, and I ‘m an fan of blues music, the blues with a big B.
I’m on the way to realise a dictionary where peoples can find the most known pieces of blues but also the less ones. In order to personalize this dictionary, I would appreciate to be helped by play lists done by the musicians themselves.

Please, can you do something for me? And if possible, to send me a list of the 10 pieces of blues music which you would take with you on a desert island.

I thank you very much by advance of the interest you can carry in this request.

    With my best regards, Richard

    Hope all is well.

  4. Sorry to clutter up the comments here but I’ve had trouble finding contact info for whoever handles your bookings. I’m gathering info for an event in Boston in August so if you could let me know who to contact and how to do so I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

  5. Hi Mike,
I enjoyed your gig at the 8th Bierbeek Blues’d Up festival on April 2 very much.
Right now I’m working on a little website with some pictures I make at blues festivals. Basically it’s an assignment for a course I’m following, but I do intend to keep it alive afterwards (with the good photos then, now I have only the crappy ones on it). On that site I would like to include some bio information.
On http://www.monstermikewelch.com/Press.htm I find some information, but it’s a bit dated. On the blog I don’t find any bio information at all. Could you get me an updated text, please?
    Hope to see you again.
    Thanks.
